The founders and contributors of the Comedians with Disabilities Act are pleased to announce the upcoming tour of its wildly popular show in October 2022.
The Comedians with Disabilities Act is a fabulous collection of comedians with disabilities, both seen and unseen, who bring forth the humor they find in their experiences. The comedy troupe is the brainchild of comedian Michael O’Connell, who started the group in 2010 and was later joined by Steve Danner and Nina G not long after. In 2016, O’Connell sadly passed away – but the show he created lives on, spotlighting a variety of disabled and outrageously funny comedians. The upcoming lineup of shows includes disability representation from the following experiences: stuttering, dyslexia, Dwarfism, amputation, addiction recovery, OCD, depression, anxiety, PTSD, Autism, Tourette’s syndrome, spina bifida, spinal muscular atrophy, multiple exostoses, hearing loss, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and blindness.
In the troupe’s most recent news, the Comedians with Disabilities Act is announcing it will be touring Northern California, featuring four headliners across 4 different venues – just in time for the Disability Awareness Month of October.

Accessible Expressions Ohio, founded in 1996, is a statewide art exhibition in Ohio that showcases work by artists with disabilities from around the state.
The pieces are shown at various locations throughout the state of Ohio as part of a touring exhibit and feature the works arranged in three categories: youth, emerging and professional artists.
Artwork shown during the tour is available for purchase through Art Possible Ohio. The organization “seeks to professionalize works of artists with disabilities through this highly regarded exhibit,” said Artists’ Open Studio managing director Jackie Hug.

Deafinitely Theatre, a deaf-led theatre company in the United Kingdom, recently established a fund to provide £1,000 bursaries to deaf and hard-of-hearing people involved in the theatre industry. The bursaries were available to writers, directors, designers, choreographers, actors, dancers, stage managers, technicians, make-up artists, community practitioners, producers – or people with any other role in the theatre industry.
Applicants were eligible to apply for one of 20 awards so long as they were at least 18 years old, self-employed and working in the United Kingdom.
Paula Garfield, Artistic Director at Deafinitely Theatre, said “The Covid-19 pandemic continues to be an incredibly difficult period for the arts and we are determined to come out of it with brilliant work for audiences across the country to return to, with deaf and disabled theatre makers front and centre.”
OUR TAKE: Support for the inclusion of disabled people in the arts is important, in both good times and bad. Deafinitely Theatre’s commitment to support 20 deaf and hard-of-hearing members of the industry during the pandemic is welcome, and we look forward to seeing what these artists develop.
